So I finished reading the Origin of Species last night.....

...oh my.. i am not trying to start a creation vs. evolution debate, but something else really did stand out in my mind upon reading this "infamous" book.

and that is that the theory of evolution is a very complex and at times, logically interesting theory.

it makes valid points as well as asking fair and legitimate questions of the theory of creation.

two jehovah's witnesses walk up to a house and knock on the door.

a younger man wearing a t-shirt with all kinds of swirl-patterns on it (think tie-dye, but not quite) answers the door and the first jw goes into his presentation.

he is offering the watchtower on the "occult" (cue spooky music).

the above mark twain quote made me think about some of the comments i heard this weekend during the watchtower study.

several commentors alluded to the seeming ignorance of "wordly" people as regards bible knowledge.

comments such as "people who go to churches don't know the bible like we do, so they may go to church and afterwards say that was a very good sermon.

from time to time we read faith-strengthening experiences of brothers and sisters who undergo ferocious persecution while maintianing their integrity.

even when faced with torture and death, these valiant martyrs "hold fast" to the source of their real strength, which is......... .......watchtower publications???.

here's a gem that was shared with me, and now i have the honor of relating it to you all.

Black Friday Stampedes VS. District Convention Morning Gate Openings

has anyone had a jw rant to them around christmas time about how "horrible" it is to be a "worldly" person at that time of year?.

certian jws love to use the infamous black friday shopping riots that tend to occur as examples to back up this argument.

now, while those incidents are indeed disgraceful, they are hardly isolated to the "world".. among my "priveliges" was to be an attendant at a few district conventions.

What so bad about having a "clergy"?

note: again, i apologize if this topic has been already discussed previously.. among the many practices and professed beliefs that i have been indoctrinated into believing my entire life, there is a few in particular that have really made me scratch my head.

and this would be the claim that jehovah's witnesses do not have a clergy.

if i'm correct i think this is printed outright in a recent public edition of the watchtower regarding the beliefs of witnesses.

Just something I've noticed that makes me wonder...

i have found it very odd how much in-fighting and back-biting go on among certian boe's.. and it's rather strange that several (not all) of them will vent to me about how they can't stand this one, or they think this other one is out of line, or that elder's wife talks too much, etc.

or they whine about how many elder meetings they have to go to, or how they are frustrated because they have to deal with sister loudmouth-who-pisses-off-everyone-else.. and i sit there wondering why they would ever want to continue to do this job?

it's thankless, offers no compensation, rips you away from your family, and forces you to rub shoulders with company men and puts you in a position where you have to render judgement on someone with little or no understanding of what the psychological consequences to that person could be.

How do I get them to leave me alone?

why does every ex-elder who went through so much turmoil while being an elder always whine to me about how much it sucked, yet when i mention that i don't want to be one, they suddenly get all nostalgic and tell me what a blessing it is to serve as an e-man?.

elder.. period.. maybe i might have a change of heart one day if they actually require these men to have some sort of actual psychological/communication training or if they start handing out paychecks.

but until then, i respectfully decline.. .
